The Addition Equations and Sums Box is a Montessori material designed to help children practice addition in a concrete, hands-on way. This box contains two compartments with a lid for easy storage and organization.
Compartment 1: Contains a set of plastic chips with addition equations printed on them. Each chip features a specific addition problem for children to solve. These equations cover all the possible addends from 1 to 9.
Compartment 2: Contains a set of plastic chips with the answers to the corresponding addition equations. The child can use these chips to check their answers after solving the equations.
The material is designed for use with the Addition Working Charts, allowing children to match the equations with the correct sums. By physically handling the chips, children reinforce their understanding of addition in a tactile way.
How to Use the Material:
Select an Equation Chip:
The child chooses a chip with an addition equation from Compartment 1 (e.g., 3 + 5 = ?).
Solve the Problem:
The child solves the equation mentally or by using other Montessori materials (such as the Addition Strip Board or Working Charts) to aid in solving the problem.
Match with the Answer Chip:
After solving the equation, the child selects a chip from Compartment 2 and matches it with the correct answer (e.g., the child will find the chip with the answer "8" and match it with the equation 3 + 5 = 8).
Self-Correction:
If the child matches the equation with the correct answer, they can verify their understanding. If an incorrect match is made, the child can check the equation again and attempt to correct their mistake.
